Sophomore Dylan Seely had the best finish of the six Spartan wrestlers participating at this weekend’s Harrisonville Christmas Tournament. Seely brought home a sixth-place medal as the Spartans placed 23rd in the 35-team event that featured 11 junior varsity squads.
Seely placed sixth in the 132-pound bracket with a 4-3 record in the two-day event that began Friday night and continued Saturday.
Seely drew a bye and won his second-round match by a fall in 1:48. He lost his next two matches by falls, before bouncing back to win his fifth-round match by fall over Dominick Howard of Webb City in 1:11. Seely lost in the consolation quarterfinal to 17-1 Mac Diaz of Ray-Pec, but followed with a 5-3 decision over Aaron Sims of Marshall. In the fifth-place match, Seely lost by fall in 2:26 to Michael Lopez of Adrian.
Freshman 145-pounder Tommy Wedgeworth placed eighth. He won his first four matches – two by technical fall and two more by falls before losing to Dalton Tipton of Smithville by technical fall. Tipton is 22-1 for the season.
