Cole Upton and Ethan Crowe paced a second-half surge for the Southwest Wildcats as they came from behind to stop visiting Hardin-Central 41-39 Monday night.
Upton hit three of his four 3-point buckets in the second half on his way to a 14-point night, while Crowe hit for 6 of his 11 points over the final two periods to help the Wildcats, now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the CLAA, overcome a 22-19 halftime deficit.
Hardin-Central (3-2, 0-1) was held to five second-half field goals. Southwest cut the Bulldogs halftime lead to 29-27 entering the final period. The Dawgs got a field goal from Clif Kugler and Mitchell White, and a 3-pointer from Colton Layman.
Matt Hymiller had the lone Hardin-Central field goal in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs were held to 10 points.
Kugler hit a field goal and five of six free throws in the final 8 minutes on his way to a 12-point night. Upton hit a pair of his 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Southwest.
