The Orrick Bearcats could not recover from a slow start Thursday night at home against visiting East Buchanan. The Dragons raced out to a 26-5 lead after the first 8 minutes and never looked back on their way to a 68-36 win over the 0-3 Bearcats.
Brad Shultz paced East Buchanan with 28 points – 15 of those coming in the opening frame.
“We came out very flat and had way too many turnovers and free throws,” Orrick Coach Jared McMahon said. “The second quarter was much better. We were more aggressive to the basket and played much better defense.”
East Buchanan held a 15-13 scoring edge on Orrick in the second quarter to grab a 41-18 cushion at the break, but the Dragons came out strong again to begin the third quarter with a 20-10 advantage.
