Two days after a disappointing loss in the opening round of the I-70 Conference Tournament at Lone Jack, the Orrick Lady Bearcats bounced back to advance to the consolation final with a 55-47 victory over Santa Fe. Orrick opened the tournament with a 49-48 overtime loss to fourth-seeded Lone Jack Monday night.
The Lady Bearcats overcame a sluggish start Wednesday night with a strong second-half effort to stop the Lady Chiefs. Santa Fe held an 11-8 lead after one period and took a 21-18 advantage by the half. The third quarter was a different story for Orrick as the Lady Bearcats broke loose with an 18-point effort on the way to grabbing a 36-27 advantage entering the final 8 minutes. Orrick built a 20-point cushion in the fourth quarter and then turned the game over the reserves.
Orrick shot 55 percent from the field and hit 6 of 10 from the free throw line. Madison Winters hit 9 of her 13 attempts from the field, including the only 3-pointer for the Lady Bearcats, on her way to a 21-point effort. Two other Lady Bearcats reached double digits with Madison Endsley adding 14 points and Sam Fulte hitting 5 of her 6 shots from the field for 10 points. Eight of Fulte’s points came in the third quarter as Orrick took control of the game.
