The Richmond Lady Spartan offense went cold Friday night as they dropped the consolation game of the Husker Classic 35-19 to Holden. Richmond advanced to the fifth-place game Thursday night with a 46-41 decision over Oak Grove.
Things began well for Richmond Friday as the Lady Spartans were on the board within the opening 30 seconds, but Holden answered with the next 10 points to take a 10-2 lead into the second quarter. The Lady Spartans added a free throw and did not hit a field goal until 3:36 remained in the half as the Lady Eagles held a 16-5 advantage.
Both teams struggled scoring over the remaining moments of the half, but Holden held on for a 19-10 lead at the break.
Richmond cut the Holden lead to 21-16 with just over 6 minutes to play in the third quarter, but the Lady Eagles took advantage of Lady Spartan turnovers to score the final 9 points of the quarter.
The Holden lead reached 31-16 before Miya O’Dell ended an almost 8-minute scoring drought for the Lady Spartans with a basket. The Richmond freshman then added a free throw less than a minute later for the final Lady Spartan points of the game.
