Orrick Coach Jared McMahon is looking for a four-quarter effort from his Bearcats. He adds they are getting closer following the team’s 43-34 loss Friday night to Lone Jack in the seventh-place game of the I-70 Conference Tournament.
The Bearcats battled their turnover problem Friday night against the tournament hosts and managed just 10 field goals.
“We did a much better job defensively and were more aggressive offensively,” McMahon said. “We still need to cut down on the turnovers. The boys showed a lot of heart. We just need to learn how to play the whole game and not part of it.”
Orrick trailed 15-6 after the first 8 minutes and both teams struggled offensively in the second period with the Bearcats holding a 4-2 advantage. The Mules outscored Orrick 12-9 in the third quarter.
The Bearcats hit just three field goals over the final 8 minutes, but converted 9 of their 10 free throws and ended the game making 11 of 17 from the stripe.
