Persell places 44th in state meet

Senior Justin Persell had the top showing for the Richmond Spartans at Saturday’s Class 2 state cross country meet held at the Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City. Persell crossed the line in 18 minutes, 24.35 seconds to take 44th place. Barstow senior Deko Ricketts was crowned the Class 2 state champion with his time of 17:02.45, with Lamar’s Kaden Overstreet placing second in 17:11.14.

Lamar won the team title with 69 points, while Herculanium edged Fatima for the runner-up spot 108-109. Richmond ended the team competition in 14th place with 329 points, with Hamilton-Penny, the only other area school taking 12th with 299.

Matt Tweedie was the only other Spartan runner to place in the top 100. The junior finished in 18:58.27 to place 90th.
