OHS boys drop first two games

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

Orrick Coach Jared McMahon did not like the intensity of his young Bearcat squad in Tuesday night’s 66-21 loss at Lawson. Tuesday’s loss came on the heels of Monday night’s 60-21 setback at Lathrop as Orrick begins the 2012-13 hoops season.

McMahon said the problems his Bearcats struggled with can be taken care of with a little work.

“Tonight, we simply lacked the intensity that we need to win ballgames,” he said. “We have to handle the ball better and box off better. We’re going to continue to work hard and get ourselves ready for next week’s games.”

The Bearcats were held scoreless through the first period Tuesday night as Lawson opened up a 22-0 cushion, and then expanded it to a 45-6 lead by halftime. The Cardinals outscored Orrick 16-5 in the third period and Orrick held a 10-5 advantage in the final 8 minutes with the running clock in effect.
