The Orrick Lady Bearcats have bounced back to the .500 level after dropping their first two games of the season. The Lady Bearcats grabbed their first victory of the year, and coach Mitch Comstock’s 200th career win, with a 42-14 decision at Mid Buchanan. Orrick followed that Tuesday night with a 44-36 decision at home over an improving West Platte squad.
After trailing the visiting Lady Blue Jays 25-23 at the half, Orrick finished strong and held West Platte to 11 second-half points. The Lady Bearcats outscored West Platte 9-4 in the third period and 12-7 over the final 8 minutes.
“I am very proud of how we came out in the second half,” Comstock said. “We were down at halftime and came out in the third quarter and took the game over. We hit some free throws down the stretch that got us the win.”
Orrick converted 3 of 5 free throws in the fourth quarter and 2 of three in the third quarter. The Lady Bearcats ended the night making 8 of 14 from the stripe, while West Platte was 4 of 9 with all those attempts in the first two frames. Sam Fulte and Madison Winters led the balanced Orrick scoring attack with 12 points apiece. Winters also hit the boards to grab 10 rebounds.
