House of Hope, a shelter for victims of domestic and sexual abuse in Ray, Lafayette and Eastern Jackson counties, is seeking holiday gifts for those living in its shelter.
“Holidays are difficult for families struggling with domestic violence, especially for those who have had to leave their home to escape violence. In many cases, the victims do not have the money to purchase gifts for their children – and even if they do, it’s not safe to go to the store,” Christal Milligan, director of House of Hope, said in a press release.
House of Hope is seeking non-violent gifts for children and teens, such as art supplies, craft kits, dolls and stuffed animal, sports equipment, videos, and makeup and perfume for teen girls. They are also asking for “gifts that offer comfort,” like children’s pajamas, women’s nightgown and robes, socks, underwear, coats, hats, gloves, bath gel and lotions. Other items needed are alarm clocks, curling irons, blow dryers, bath towels and washcloths.
“House of Hope appreciates everything given to help our victims have the best holiday possible,” Milligan said.
Those wanting to volunteer with the House of Hope holiday store or have questions can contact Milligan at 660-259-4766. Items may be dropped off at the House of Hope office at 301 Broadway in Lexington.
