After dropping their first game of the season at Santa Fe last week, the Hardin-Central Bulldogs returned home for a pair of lopsided victories in the first two games of their own tournament. Like the girls, coach Kenny Layman emptied the bench on Monday and Wednesday.
The Dawgs grabbed a 96-23 verdict Monday over Malta Bend and followed with an 86-12 decision over Breckenridge.
Hardin-Central, now 2-1, meets Norborne Friday night at 8:15 in the title match.
Eleven Bulldogs got in on the scoring act in Monday night’s win over Malta Bend. Cliff Kugler came off the bench for a game-high 22 points, followed by Wyatt Craven and Cole Leakey with 13 each. Colton Layman also reached double figures with 10 points. Kugler completed his double-double with a team-high 12 rebounds, while Layman was credited with 8 of the Bulldogs’ 22 steals.
Also scoring for Hardin-Central was Mitchell White and Matt Hymiller with 9 apiece, Lane Coldiron and Josh Smith with 6 each, Caleb Pieper added 5, followed by Leonard Chilcutt with 2 and Zak Finley with a free throw.
