Residents of Richmond School District interested in serving on the board of education can file beginning Dec. 11 at the district’s administration building at 1017 E. Main St.
The three-year terms of two members of the current board, Chris Minnick and Joey Duncan, expire in April. Minnick is the board’s current president and Duncan is serving his first term as a member.
Filing for the two seats will continue through 5 p.m. Jan. 15. The election takes place on April 2.
The administration building will be open to accept filings during regular business hours, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., five days a week. There are several exceptions. Filing hours on Dec. 21 will be 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hours from Dec. 28 to Dec. 28, and again on Dec. 31, will be 8 a.m. to noon.
No filing will take place on Dec. 24 and 25, Jan. 1-3, 2013, and any day school is closed because of the weather.
There are relatively few requirements to run for a school board seat in Missouri. According to Section 162.291 of the Missouri State Statutes, members – officially referred to as “directors” – must be citizens of the United States, resident taxpayers of the district, residents of Missouri for one year (the year preceding their election) and be at least 24.
If you have additional questions on qualifications, contact the district at 776-6912.
