The music your grandma loved … and still does

Music – especially old-time country and Gospel – are the favorites of Shirkey residents, Activities Director Pat Clevenger says, and the home gives them plenty of it. In addition to weekly performances by Harold Barchers, Otho Nickell and Dave Simmons, pictured here, residents are entertained by the Country Music Makers, the third Wednesday of the month, and by country and Gospel performer Denny Bowen once a month. Lonnie White, Bob Walkenhorst, Bob and Anna Berger, Mary Lou Baker, Luann Norris and Clint Easley are also regulars at the nursing home. ‘When we ask them what they like, music’s their favorite thing,’ says Clevenger. Walkenhorst, a popular musician from Norborne, is the son of a Shirkey’s resident. (Photo by David Knopf/Richmond News)
