Samuel Rubey Staton, 76, of Carrollton, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at the Benchmark Health Care Center in Lexington.
Samuel was born June 29, 1936 in Carrollton, to Dr. R. Hamilton and Alice Olivia (Lewis) Staton.
Samuel worked as a correctional officer in the states of Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida and Missouri. He was of the Episcopalian faith. He had lived in Carroll County most of his life. Samuel was a member of the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War. Samuel’s family would like to give special thanks to the individuals of Preferred Hospice and the Benchmark Care Facility in Lexington, for their personal and loving treatment while in their care.
Survivors include four daughters and three sons-in-law, Rebecca Smoke of Norborne, Deborah and Wilbur McCoy of Norborne, Dr. Sarah Staton and her husband, Dr. Jorge Nunez of Washington, D.C., and Kim and Chris Mires of Horse Cave, Ky.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Randy and Lisa Staton of Queen Creek, Ariz. and Timothy Staton of Blue Springs; seven grandchildren, Gavin Smoke, Devanne McCoy, Jakob McCoy, Brock Staton, Jamie Staton, Shandi Greene, and Jovi Mires; one brother, Edward Staton of New York, N.Y.; and one sister, Alice Staton and her husband, Leonard Ewenstein of New York, N.Y.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents; and two grandchildren, Nathaniel and Olivia Smoke.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Missouri Veterans Home.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the Coon Cemetery in Princeton. If needing direction to the Cemetery please call Jenny Vertrees at 660-748-4104.
