Richmond sophomore Bailey Busse became the youngest Lady Spartan to win a district championship on a cold Saturday when she defeated Odessa’s Stephanie Kushke in three sets at the Class 1, District 13 tournament.
Busse, who has 28 singles victories this season, will head back to Odessa this afternoon to face Pembroke Hill’s Yurie Heard in the sectional tournament. Busse began the day with a straight-set win in the quarterfinals over Kaitlyn Withrow of Excelsior Springs, 6-0, 6-0. She then got pas Hannah Weichmann of Grain Valley in the semifinals 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the title match.
Busse, who also holds the MRVC and Richmond Invitational titles this fall, dropped the first set in the finals 5-7, but bounced back with a 6-3 win in the second and set and claimed the title with a 6-2 victory in the third.
