Netters fall in districts

The Richmond Lady Spartans began the 2012 tennis season by defeating Excelsior Springs and Monday, the team portion of the Richmond campaign came to an end with a loss to the Lady Tigers in the first round of Class 1, District 14 tournament at Odessa.

The Lady Spartans fell 3-5, and end the year with a 7-7 overall mark and a 4-3 finish in the MRVC East.

Richmond captured two of the singles matches with sophomore Bailey Busse winning in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-1. Busse and Carrie Smith teamed up for the Lady Spartans’ final win of the day in doubles by the same 6-0, 6-1 final.

Smith dropped her No. 2 singles match 5-7 and 6-7. Jenny Jones fell in three games in the No. 3 match. After dropping the first set 5-7, Jones tied the match with a 6-0 win in the second set, but fell in the decisive third set 6-7.
