The third time proved not to be a charm for the Richmond Lady Spartan softball team Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the Class 3, District 15 tournament in Excelsior Springs.
For the third time this season, the Lady Spartans lost to Lawson, and Wednesday’s 9-2 loss to the Lady Cardinals ended the 2012 softball season for Richmond with a 6-21 record. Lawson bolted out to a 3-0 lead after one inning and Maddie Cox kept the Richmond bats in check throughout the rest of the game. The Lady Spartans managed three hits and drew a pair of walks, while striking out a half dozen times.
The Lady Cardinals added two more runs in the third before Richmond got on the board with its only two runs of the game in the top of the fourth. Jamie Anderson led off with a single, and one out later Tatum Ramsey’s home run brought home what would be the final runs of the season for the Lady Spartans.
