The Richmond Lady Spartans pulled the curtain down on the 2012 regular season Tuesday afternoon with a 10-4 loss at Knob Noster in an MRVC East league matchup. The loss gives Richmond a 2-8 mark against league competition, and the Lady Spartans take a 6-21 record into Class 3, District 15 play at Excelsior Springs. Richmond was 1-3 in the Higginsville Tournament over the weekend.
The Lady Spartans had trouble getting the bats going Tuesday in the regular-season finale. Richmond managed seven hits, while Knob Noster was able to score its 10 runs on 10 hits, with four walks.
Tatum Ramsey’s two-run single in the top of the second inning spotted the Lady Spartans to a 2-0 lead. Ramsey’s hit chased home Paige O’Doniel, who reached on a two-out single and Mallory Cole, who had reached on a Lady Panther error. Tatum Ramsey drove in her third run of the game in the top of the fourth with another two-out single to score Tessa Ramsey, who reached on another Knob Noster error.
However, the Lady Panthers struck for two runs in the fourth and eight more in the fifth. Madison Cole began Richmond’s seventh inning with a single and scored the final run of the game two outs later on Jamie Anderson’s base hit.
Richmond began Saturday’s play with a 5-3 8-inning loss to the tournament hosts. Richmond had just three hits, but still managed to take a 2-2 tie into extra innings. Higginsville them pushed three runs across in the top of the eighth, while the Lady Spartans could only counter with one in the home half of the inning.
