Nick Davis’ 84-yard kickoff return with 23 seconds remaining spoiled Richmond’s comeback effort to give Knob Noster a 20-14 junior varsity football victory over the visiting Spartans Monday night.
Richmond fell behind 14-0 after one quarter, and battled back to tie the game with a touchdown in the third period and one in the fourth. The Spartans capped their first possession in the third quarter with their first touchdown of the contest. Jake Dickey crashed over from the one-yard line with 5:08 left to play in the third frame to end an eight-play, 72-yard drive. Sam Owen ran the conversion to cut the Panther’s lead to 14-8. Dickey’s second touchdown came with 41.6 seconds left in the game to cap a 60-yard, nine-play march. Dickey’s five-yard scoring run tied the game, but the run for conversion was stopped short.
