James M. Happy Sr., 82, of Lee’s Summit, passed away Oct. 21, 2012.
James was born Jan. 30, 1930 in Hardin. He graduated from Hardin Central in 1948 and from William Jewell College in 1953. In 1953 he married Eva Katheryn Black on March 6. He served in the Army and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He enjoyed coaching and teaching history at Westin High School. James worked for 20 years with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and is remembered for his safety public service announcements on the radio, “This is Sgt. Jim Happy of the Missouri State Highway Patrol”. In 1978 he started a career at AT&T as head of security. In 1995 & 96 he was a dispatcher for the Highway Patrol and enjoyed retirement.
Survivors include his sisters June Richards and Judy Norris, Sons James M. Happy Jr. and Brian Patterson, grandsons Christian Jesse Happy and Darren Dwayne Happy, granddaughter Amanda Joy Happy, Niece Emily Gunter, and great grandchildren Eva Ann, Hayden, Georgan, and Anna.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse T. and Emily Happy, and wife Eva Katheryn Happy.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Langsford Funeral Home. A graveside service will be Thursday Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Hardin Cemetery in Hardin,. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
