The Holden Eagles captured the first two spots Thursday at a very windy Southview Park in Richmond to take the MRVC cross country title with 29 points – 50 better than the runners-up, Grain Valley. Richmond had two runners in the top 10 to take third place in the seven-team field with 95 points. Grain Valley dominated the girls’ race earlier in the afternoon with 28 points. Pleasant Hill finished second in the five-team race with 61 points, while the Lady Spartans finished fourth with 100 points, which was one better than Odessa.
Shawn Conrad ran away from the pack early in winning the individual title in 17 minutes, 19 seconds, with his teammate, Tyler Flashpohler, breaking the tape in 18:06.
The Eagle junior edged Richmond’s Justin Persell for second place by just 2 seconds. Matthew Tweedie placed eighth for the Spartans with 18:35. Wyatt Bulk got in just under 20 minutes with his 20th-place time of 19:46.
