Chilhowee can’t stop Bulldog offense

By Russ Green-Sports Editor

After battling injuries for a couple of weeks, the Hardin-Central Bulldogs got healthy in a hurry at the expense of Chilhowee Friday night as the Dawgs picked up an 80-22 road victory.

After missing a week with an injury, running back Hank Bowers helped pace Hardin-Central to its fifth win in eight games. The senior Bulldogs carried 17 times for 183 yards and five touchdowns to give Hardin-Central a firm hold on the No. 3 spot in the District 4 standings heading into the final week of the regular season. The Bulldogs ran 57 times for 478 yards as Chilhowee drops to 3-4 and fourth in the district points race.

Freshman quarterback Rhyler Estenbaum picked up 146 rushing yards on 15 attempts, while completing half of his six passes for 52 yards and two more touchdowns – all of those going to Bowers.

The Dawgs scored on their first six possessions and 10 of its 11 for the game. The defense also got in on the scoring act with a safety by David Klein and a touchdown when Matt Hymiller, who recorded 11 tackles and a quarterback sack for the night, recovered an Indian fumble and raced 32 yards for the final score of the night.
