By Russ Green-Sports Editor

The West Platte Bluejays bolted to a 33-0 lead after the first period Friday night on the way to a 53-6 win over the visiting Orrick Bearcats in the opening game of the Class 1, District 7 playoffs. West Platte, now 6-4, will move on to face North Platte Wednesday, while the Bearcats end their campaign with a 1-9 record for the second consecutive season.

Quarterback Jack Callahan, who completed 3 of his 5 passes for 96 yards, scored the first two touchdowns of the night on a 9-yard run and a 17-yard run. Following a Dillen Guthrie 4-yard run, Callahan connected with Brandon Searcy for a 40-yard touchdown pass and Colton Goodlet ran for 17 yards for another Bluejay score to cap the opening period burst.
