Higginsville scored four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to pull away from the visiting Richmond Lady Spartans 12-6 Tuesday afternoon in an MRVC East softball matchup.
The victory kept the Lady Huskers on top of the conference standings with their fifth win in six league contests, while Richmond dropped to 1-5, and 1-12 overall.
The top two batters in the Higginsville lineup caused Richmond some problems as they combined for six of 12 Lady Husker hits. Leadoff batter Sam Davis was 3 for 4, including a pair of triples with three runs scored and 4 RBIs. Jessica Goetz had three hits in five plate appearances with a double and a triple. She also scored a run and drove in a pair.
Ashlon Edwards also added three hits for Higginsville.
Each team scored a run in the opening frame. Ashley Williams led off with a single and scored on an error. Higginsville scored a pair of runs in the third and one more in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. The Lady Spartans answered with three runs in the top of the fifth inning as Tatum Ramsey and Mallory Cole opened the inning with back-to-back singles.
With one out, Williams chased both runners home with a double and then scored on another Lady Husker error.
