The Lady Spartan tennis team honored its two seniors Thursday at the Maurice Roberts Park courts by improving to 3-3 in the MRVC East with a 7-2 win over visiting Carrollton. The Lady Spartans, will host the Richmond Tournament Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. and host Lexington in a makeup match Saturday, also beginning at 9 a.m. for their final two home matches.
Lady Spartan Coach Sarah Jenkins said her two seniors, Kelsey Knutter and Carrie Smith, would be missed next year.
It was Richmond’s second win over Carrollton this fall. Smith, playing No. 2 singles, won a hard-fought match 9-8 in a very close tiebreaker. Knutter, at No. 6 singles, dropped a 2-8 decision. The Lady Spartans captured four singles matches with No. 1 Bailey Busse shutting out her opponent, 8-0 with Jenny Jones grabbing an 8-5 victory at No. 3, and Kalynn Persell winning 8-1.
