Darian Robbins and Elizabeth Lafferty, sophomore members of the Orrick High School Dance Team, recently traveled to Florida to perform in the 2011 Disney Christmas Parade.
The girls were part of the National Cheer Association & National Dance Alliance Christmas Extravaganza.
Darian and Elizabeth were among 515 girls from 26 states who took part in the NCA/NDA performance. The Disney Christmas Parade, including the dance extravaganza, will be televised on ABC on Christmas Day beginning at 11 a.m. Central Time.
The girls were given the opportunity to participate in the Florida events because the OHS Dance Team earned an award at the NDA summer camp it attended before the school year.
“They worked very hard to raise the money needed for the trip,” said Kim Robbins, Darian’s mother. “Thank you to the many members of the Orrick community and local businesses that sponsored them.”
The girls raised the money by selling sponsorships and placing collection jars around town.
Darian shared her excitement in a message to the Richmond News.
“This was an exciting event to be at,” she said. “Many celebrities were there, too, including Justin Beiber, Jennifer Hudson and Mario Lopez to name a few.  It was awesome to be back stage and to perform on Main Street in Disney World in front of thousands of onlookers.  We had a lot of fun making new friends and making memories to last a lifetime.  We can’t wait to watch it on TV.”
The girls’ parents are Delbert and Kimberli Robbins, and Misty Cole and Michael Lafferty.
