Mr. and Mrs. Mike Coen of Napoleon will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Nov. 26. They were married at Henrietta Baptist Church and held a reception in Richmond at the home of her parents, the late O.B. and Virginia Thomas. They had chosen to be married on Mr. and Mrs. Thomas’ wedding date. They were able to enjoy and celebrate many double anniversaries together.
Mike and Shirley have two daughters, Tara Coen McBath and husband, David of Kansas City, Mo., and Tisa Coen of Lexington. They have 10 grandchildren and are expecting their 12th great-grandchild in December.
Mr. and Mrs. Coen have lived in Napoleon for 16 years. Mike retired in July from Fike Metal Corporation of Blue Springs after 32 years. Shirley decided to take college courses after raising her daughters and has worked as a hairdresser for many years. She has been attending Wentworth Military Academy and College and will graduate in the Spring.
Mrs. Coen is a writer and has named 2011, “The Year of Joy.” She and Mike have actively sought to find joy in each day of this year. She will spend the month of November chronicling the journey and the joys they have found in their lives together.
“It has been our wish all year to find the joy in each day and to share that joy with our family and friends. We are now wishing that joy for each of you as we enter this Blessed Holiday season,” the Coens said.
