The Richmond Spartans will not be carrying a lot of momentum into the first round of district play on Tuesday. The Spartans ended the regular season Friday night with a 66-42 loss at Knob Noster and will take a 16-9 record into Tuesday’s meeting with Lawson.
Richmond and Knob Noster ended the regular season tied for the runner-up spot in the MRVC East with 7-3 records. Higginsville, which tied the Spartans and Panthers for the title last season, won the outright crown this year with a clean sweep through league play. Richmond and Knob Noster split their two conference matchups this season.
The Spartans did not get much offensive production other than Robert Brewer’s 15 points. The junior post man also grabbed 10 of Richmond’s 23 rebounds.
“We didn’t compete the way I expected us to,” Richmond Coach Duane Bastob said. “Knob played extremely well. We threw out a clunker of a game. Robert had a double-double, Da’Ron played well offensively, but other than that, nothing much happened.”
