The Orrick Bearcats and East Buchanan Bulldogs put on a heck of a show to close out the regular season Friday night in Gower.
Larry Blair’s put-back just beat the buzzer to lift the visiting Bearcats to an 85-83 double-overtime victory.
The win gives Orrick a 13-11 record heading into this week’s Class 2, District 15 tournament at Sweet Springs.
Blair’s bucket came off a rebound from Justin Dickson’s shot. With time running out in the second overtime, Dickson drove and put up a short baseline jumper with 2 seconds left. The ball bounced off the rim into Blair’s hands and his follow up just beat the buzzer for the Orrick win.
“We tried to get the ball inside to Luke Searcy, but East Buck did a good job of denying him,” Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson said. “So Justin drove and put up the shot. It was a great win for the Bearcats.”
The game ended just in time for Orrick as the Bearcats had very few remaining on the bench. Already playing without the services of Aaron Blyth, who sat out due to an injury, the Bearcats lost three players due to fouls late in the game.
