It’s been a long wait for the Orrick Lady Bearcats. The Orrick girls put their claim on their first outright conference championship since 1954 Friday night with a 61-28 victory over visiting Sweet Springs.
Orrick completes a clean sweep through the I-70 Conference with a 7-0 showing and also improves to 20-2 overall.
Orrick clinched the I-70 title early as the Lady Bearcats jumped out to a 22-8 first quarter lead and was never threatened.
“We executed our game plan perfectly,” Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock said. “We knew there were some things in their defense that we could take advantage of, and the girls did a great job of getting to the open spots and hitting their shots.”
Orrick hit 47 percent from the field while hitting the boards to pull down 41 rebounds.
Amanda Rodenberg led the way with a game-high 22 points for the Lady Cats, and her layup with 5:37 remaining in the third period marked the junior’s 1,000th career point.
