The Holden Lady Eagles remained in the three-way battle for the MRVC East title after stopping visiting Richmond 56-42 Tuesday night. Holden got 18 points from Kelsey Carver, and 16 more from Kelsey Holmes as the Lady Eagles improved to 7-2 in league play and a half-game ahead of Knob Noster and Higginsville.
Richmond slips to 3-6 in the conference and 10-14 overall with its final regular-season game scheduled for Thursday at home against Knob Noster.
Richmond Coach David Littrell said his Lady Spartans started out the game on their heels as they fell behind 17-9 heading into the second period. The Lady Spartans bounced back with their best quarter offensively as they scored 16 points to cut the halftime deficit to 28-25.
Kayla Hewitt led the surge as she scored 9 of her team-high 14 points in the second frame.
