The Orrick Bearcats erased a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter against visiting Sweet Springs Friday night to close out I-70 Conference play with a 53-52 victory. Orrick’s win moves the Bearcats back over .500 in the league at 4-3, and into a tie for third place with the Greyhounds.
Orrick, 12-10 overall, trailed throughout the night before outscoring the visitors 21-7 in the final 8 minutes.
“We played poorly in the first half and Sweet Springs was more physical than us,” Bearcat Coach Morgan Dickson said. “We started playing a little better in the third quarter, but the Hounds got a bigger lead. Finally, it was like our kids just decided enough was enough and we started playing tough D.”
Justin Dickson and Clayton Jones led the comeback effort. Jones scored 9 of his game-high 19 points and Dickson added 8 of his nightly total of 12 in the fourth quarter. Coach Dickson said his team’s offense picked up the pace when it started hitting the boards.
