Richmond Coach Ken Simmons is glad the dual portion of the wrestling season is behind them so his Spartans can now concentrate on making their way to the state tournament in Columbia in a couple of weeks.
The Spartans wrapped up their duals Tuesday night with a 48-25 loss at Holden and will put a 3-8 overall record and a 1-5 MRVC East mark into the record books.
“It’s hard to compete with teams when we are giving up three to four opens and have some first-year kids taking their lumps from some decent teams,” Simmons said. “We can focus on districts now and doing the best we can to get as many state qualifiers as possible – then we can focus on earning state medals.”
The Spartans won four of the nine contested matches with the Eagles.
