Coming off what he called a very disappointing dual loss on Thursday, Richmond Coach Ken Simmons was much happier about how his squad performed at the Richmond Invitational Saturday at the RHS gym. The Spartans picked up one first-place medal, along with three second-place finishes at the 12-team event.
Senior Jake Halterman earned the lone first-place medal for the Spartans at 285. Halterman won all five of his matches by falls, including a victory over the No. 3-ranked Caleb Breshears of Mid Buchanan. Halterman is now 28-8 for the season, with 26 of those victories coming by falls.
Reny Reis, Chris McFall and Kane Southwick all picked up second-place medals. Reis improved to 35-7 for the season as he won four of his five matches – three by falls – for the afternoon at 160 pounds. McFall was 3-2 with three falls in the 125-pound bracket and is 32-7.
