Orrick Coach Mitch Comstock said his Lady Bearcats played just well enough to get past visiting St. Paul 44-40 in the I-70 Conference league opener Tuesday night.
Comstock said his Lady Cats, now 11-2 overall, played well for three quarters, but was concerned about the third period where the Saints got back in the game with a 21-6 scoring outburst.
“We have to do a better job of playing all four quarters,” he said. “We came out a little too relaxed in the third quarter, and St. Paul did a great job of getting back into the game. I was proud of the fact that we did not quit when they made their run and we were able to get the win.”
Orrick jumped out to an 11-2 first-quarter lead and by halftime had built its advantage to 25-6. After St. Paul’s rally in the third period, each team posted 13 points in the final 8 minutes.
