The Orrick Lady Bearcats started pool play at the Wellington-Napoleon Tournament with a 61-31 win over the hosts. The Lady Bearcats, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, were led by Leslie LaFavor with a game-high 14 points, and Amanda Rodenberg, who had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Kristee Harris was the third Orrick player to reach double- digit scoring with 10 points.
“We did a great job of being unselfish,” Lady Bearcat Coach Mitch Comstock said. “Wellington was running different defenses, and we did a great job of finding the open player. I was pleased with how our girls are stepping up.”
Orrick, 9-1 after the win, jumped out to a 19-5 lead in the first period and then built a 37-11 cushion by the half.
LaFavor hit 6 of 9 shots from the field, including both 3-point attempts as Orrick shot 40 percent from the field, and then converted 10 of 16 free throw attempts. Megan Swartz added 8 points to the Lady Bearcat total, with Miranda Williams scoring 6, followed by Shelby Harth with 5, Caitlin Stevinson with 4 and Makayla Easley with 2.
