It took Orrick a while to find their game following a long layoff, but once they did, it was smooth sailing as the Bearcats rolled to a 70-53 victory over Maysville Tuesday night. Orrick, now 4-3, advances to the semifinals of the Burris Classic in Lathrop to meet North Platte Thursday night.
Clayton Jones and Luke Searcy carried the scoring load for the Bearcats with Jones hitting for a game-high 31, while Searcy added 19.
Maysville held a 15-11 lead after the opening 8 minutes, but in the second period, Jones began to heat up with 14 points as the Bearcats outscored the Wolverines 24-11. Jones added his lone 3-pointer in the third quarter, and Searcy hit for 12 points as Orrick built a 56-38 cushion entering the final frame.
“We finally started playing in the second quarter and took control of the game,” Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson said. “We fouled too much and let Maysville stay close in the first half. We had contributions from everyone, so it was a nice team win.”
Ty Griffin added 8 points for Orrick, followed by Justin Dickson with 6, while Cameron McGlothlin and Kalija Rogers added 3 apiece.
Orrick struggled at the free throw line as the Bearcats hit just 9 of 24 attempts, while Maysville connected on 14 of 27 from the stripe.
