The Orrick Lady Bearcats got just enough scoring Monday night to advance to the semifinals of the Bill Burns Classic in Lathrop. Orrick, now 6-1, will meet top-seeded North Platte this evening at 7:30 following a 37-22 first-round victory over St. Mary’s.
It was Orrick’s first game since Dec. 18 and coach Mitch Comstock said the time away from the court showed for both teams.
“It was an ugly game by both teams last night due to the lack of gym time with the recent snow,” he said. “We talked about not needing to have practice in order to play hard, and the girls did that last night. The skill level was down, but that will come back with some work this week.”
Amanda Rodenberg led the Orrick scoring with a game-high 14 points, with 10 of those coming in the third quarter. Megan Swartz and Shelby Harth added 5 each, with Miranda Williams scoring 4, while Leslie LaFavor and Kristee Harris added 3 apiece. Shelby Harth hit a pair of free throws, and Caitlin Stevinson added one.
Sarah Dortch hit three 3-poiners to lead the Lady Trojans’ scoring with 9 points.
Orrick held a 13-6 lead at the half.
