Despite early foul trouble, the Orrick Bearcats led West Platte until late in the fourth quarter. A Blue Jay rally sent the game into overtime, where West Platte held off the visiting Bearcats 61-58.
Orrick trailed 16-11 after 8 minutes, but came back to grab a 26-22 lead at the half. Orrick then took a 46-38 lead into the fourth period before West Platte outscored the Bearcats 17-9.

“We couldn’t finish them in the fourth,” Orrick Coach Morgan Dickson said. “The Blue Jays were scrappy and forced a couple of quick shots and turnovers, plus we missed some free throws and a couple of easy shots late. We competed hard and played good defense and as we keep playing, our experience as a team will increase and we’ll just keep getting better.”
Jones ended the night converting 9 of 16 from the stripe, while also hitting three from outside the 3-point arc.
Cameron McGlothlin added 14 points for Orrick, followed by Luke Searcy with 7, Justin Dickson with 5, Ty Griffin with 4 and Kalija Rogers with a free throw.
Brett Grindstaff paced the Blue Jays with 19 points with 15 of those coming after halftime, while Kaleb Collier hit for 17 points – 4 of those in overtime.
Orrick attempted 32 free throws, and hit 15 of them, with West Platte making 12 of its 18 attempts from the stripe.
