After a tough loss in the I-70 Tournament championship game on Saturday, the Orrick Lady Bearcats bounced back in a big way Tuesday night with a 50-14 win over West Platte at Weston. Amanda Rodenberg’s 17 points led the way as Orrick improved to 3-1 for the season.
Lady Bearcat Coach Mitch Comstock was pleased with how his team reacted to its first loss of the season.
“We played better last night,” he said. “We had a good night out of Amanda, and our guards shot better than we did on Saturday. We still aren’t to the level we want or need to be at to accomplish the goals we’ve set for ourselves.”
Comstock added the season is still young and his team has plenty of time to improve.
Orrick took all the suspense out of the game early. West Platte managed just two field goals and a free throw through the first two periods as the Lady Bearcats jumped to an 11-2 first-period lead and a 27-5 cushion at the half.
Orrick then outscored the Jays 13-9 in the third frame and 10-0 over the final 8 minutes.
Megan Swartz hit three buckets outside the arc on her way to a 9-point evening, with Amy Isenhour adding 8 points, and Leslie LaFavor chipping in 6. Also scoring for Orrick were Caitlin Stevinson with 5, followed by Makayla Easley and Shelby Harth with 2 apiece and Miranda Williams with a free throw.
Each team went to the free throw line six times, with Orrick hitting 3 attempts, and West Platte making 2.
The Lady Bearcats will host Cass Midway Thursday and Lathrop on Friday.
