Lady Bulldog comeback effort falls short in OT

Allison Oyler hit a 3-point bucket for Hardin-Central with 14 seconds remaining in the game to send their matchup at Meadville into overtime. However, the Eagles outscored the visitors 9-4 in the extra session for a 49-44 CLAA victory Friday night.
Oyler’s 3-pointer helped Hardin-Central, now 2-1, rally from a 34-26 deficit entering the final 8 minutes.
Once in overtime, Kendra Holcer hit a 3-pointer of her own and 2 of her 4 free throws. Meadville then converted 4 of 6 free throws in the overtime, while the only scoring Hardin-Central could manage was from a 4-for-4 performance at the line.
Meadville raced out to a 16-6 lead in the opening quarter and took a 26-14 cushion into the half. Lindsay Arbogast began finding the range for Hardin-Central as she scored 8 of her game-high 19 points in the third period as the Lady Dawgs held a 12-8 advantage to set up the final quarter.
Olyer’s trey capped a 14-6 run by Hardin-Central that sent the game into overtime.
Each team hit 34 percent from the field, with Arbogast hitting 7 of 15 field goal attempts, and 5 of 7 free throws while grabbing 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Frankie Chilcutt recorded a double-double for Hardin-Central with 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Also scoring for the Lady Dawgs were Megan Layman with 6, Oyler with 5, Angelica Bradley with 2 and Kayla Carrillo a free throw.
Holcer paced the Eagles’ scoring with 17, while Becca Zell added a dozen.
