Mr. and Mrs. Michael Farnan of Richmond are proud to announce the marriage of their daughter, Sarah Catherine, to Christopher Garner Sartain, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sartain of Richmond on Saturday June 6, 2009.
The ceremony and mass were held at 1:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Redemptorist Catholic Parish in Kansas City, Mo. Father Donald Farnan, uncle of the bride and priest for the Kansas City/St. Joseph Diocese, officiated. Guests were greeted at the door with beautiful fresh wreaths ordained with lilies. The church boasts the longest aisle and the most beautiful in Kansas City, with 25 magnificent stained glass windows, set off with white satin fabric vaulted from the ceiling stretching to 60 feet above the floor. Large urns filled with assorted pink flowers adorned the sanctuary’s beautiful carved white main altar flanked by two similar side altars, plus two other very large end altars with separate railings that are located in the cross-part of the church.
The bride was given away in marriage by her father, Michael Farnan. Her gown was a strapless, full ball gown made of pearl white taffeta. The dress was adorned with crystal beading throughout the bodice and length of the dress. Her two-layered veil accented the full length of the train. The bride carried a bouquet of roses, Gerber daisies and lilies and her grandmother’s handkerchief embroidered in blue.
Maids of Honor were Tess Farnan and Elizabeth Farnan, sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Lindsey Wilson, cousin of the bride, Jennifer Lamar, Lauren Buckles, and Elaina Molle – all sorority sisters of the bride. Their dresses were short strapless black taffeta. Bridesmaids held bouquets mixed with pink lilies, Gerber daisies, as well as pink roses.
Junior Bridesmaids included: Morgan Farnan and Blair Markley, nieces of the bride and groom. Their dresses were short pink taffeta with crossing straps in the back. The junior bridesmaids carried bouquets made of Gerber daises. They were escorted by Bo Huffman, nephew of the groom and junior groomsmen.
Flower girls were twin cousins of the bride, Alexis and Brianna Platz. They wore pearly white tea length gowns with a pink sash matching the junior bridesmaids. The twins carried kissing balls of pink roses and Gerber daisies. Grady Westphal, friend of the bride, walked in the processional with the twins as the ring bearer.
Best man was Caleb Fitzwater, friend of the groom. Groomsmen included: Trac Hendrix, Aaron Bassore, Kyle Richardson, Roger Sweeney, and Nick Opitz, all friends of the groom. Ushers seating the guests included Jesse Pena and Jake Pena, cousins of the bride, as well as Cody McCann and Brandon McCann, nephews of the groom.
Chris Sesti, aunt of the bride, sang “How Beautiful,” during the communion procession and Ave Maria while the couple honored Mary, the Mother of God, and their own mothers with roses. Jim Harris, cousin of the bride, cantor for the mass, sang “The Parent’s Prayer,” and the “Our Father.” Eric Pointer, friend of both the bride and groom, played “Trumpet Voluntary,” and “Trumpet Tune” for the entrance and exit of the ceremony. The organist was Karen Engebretson. Program attendants included Kristen Sweeney, Laura Steele, Katie Willougby, and Katie Kincaide, friends of both the bride and groom.
The bride is the daughter of Michael and Joy Farnan, and the granddaughter of LeRoy and Ada Mae Wilmes of Maryville, and Helen and the late Alfred Farnan of Richmond. The bride was a 2003 graduate of Richmond High School and a May 2009 graduate of the University of Missouri- Kansas City School of Medicine. Sarah is currently completing her residency in Emergency Medicine at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
The groom is the son of Ed and Christie Sartain and the grandson of late Garner and Mary Settle and the late Raymond and Nancy Sartain, all of Richmond. The groom is a 2002 graduate of Richmond High School and a 2006 graduate of William Jewell College. Christopher currently teaches and coaches in the North Kansas City School District at Staley High School and is completing his Masters Degree with Northwest Missouri State University.
A reception with dinner and dancing was held that evening at the Argosy Casino Hotel. The couple honeymooned at El Dorado Royale in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. They reside in Kansas City, Mo.
