The Richmond volleyball season came to an end Monday night in the opening round of the Class 3, District 15 Tournament at Excelsior Springs as the Lady Spartans were swept by the hosts.
Richmond played well against the second-seeded Lady Tigers in the opening game. The Lady Spartans held an 18-12 lead before Excelsior Springs rallied to take a 25-22 decision. In the final game, the Lady Tigers controlled the tempo from the start on the way to a 25-10 victory.
“I was so proud of the girls and the way they played,” Richmond Coach Bailey Pierson said. “They fought hard against a very solid Excelsior team. All of them came together and gave a great effort. It was a fun and exciting game to watch.”
Ali Svaglic had three service aces for Richmond, with Stephanie May hitting a pair. Brittany Childers, Kassie Smith and Mikayla Vanderpool had one kill each, with Smith and Devvon Daily getting one block apiece.
Daily also had 2 digs for Richmond.
The Lady Spartans end the season with a 5-22 record, while the 17-12-2 Lady Tigers advance to meet No. 6 seed Oak Grove in the semifinals.
The Lady Panthers, just 3-21-2 for the season, stunned No. 3 seeded Odessa with a 25-19, 25-23 sweep in their opener on Monday.
