Senior Stephanie Williams was the lone Lady Spartan selected to the first team MRVC East all-conference softball team selected by league coaches. Williams, who set a school record for doubles in a season, was one of three Richmond players named to the squad.
Two others were tabbed second team.
Selected second team from Richmond were junior shortstop Kayla Hewitt, and freshman catcher Ashley Williams. League champion Carrollton had three first-team selections, two second-team and one honorable mention.
Higginsville, the only district champion from the conference, had two first-team players to go along with two second-team and one honorable mention. The Lady Huskers’ season was ended Wednesday with a 4-3, 10-inning loss to Brookfield in the Class 2 Sectional.
First-team selections (seniors unless otherwise noted): Carrie Binder, Knob Noster; Jesse Craig and Ragen Mathis, junior, of Carrollton; Kayla Blakely, Higginsville; Shelby Miller, freshman, Lexington; Stephanie Williams, Richmond; Kristine Daugherty, junior, Carrollton; Angel Lamb, Higginsville; and Selena Gochenour, sophomore, Holden.
Second-team selections: Kayla Hewitt, junior, Richmond; Vicky Jackson, junior, and Trista Walker, Knob Noster; Karley Alumbaugh, junior, Higginsville; Hailey Johnson, sophomore, Holden; Ashley Williams, freshman, Richmond; Briana Homfeld, Higginsville; Shaina Cauble and Felicia White, sophomore, Carrollton.
Honorable mention: Kasey Stratton and Katie Rector, sophomore, Lexington; Sara Houston, Higginsville; Hannah Mayden, Carrollton; and Holly Crabtree, freshman, Lexington.
Richmond also had a league-high 11 all-academic selections. Higginsville had 10 selections, followed by Carrollton with seven, Holden with six, and Knob Noster with five.
Named all-academic from Richmond were seniors Stephanie Williams and Alex Phillips; juniors Adrian Tackett, Kelly Martens and Kayla Hewitt; sophomores Kristie Spiers, Haley Padgett and Haley Bentley; freshmen Ashley Williams, Katherine Dale and Jamie Anderson.
