Richmond senior Hanna Jones played her final match at the Maurice Roberts Park courts Monday afternoon, and like her teammates, closed out the home portion of the 2009 schedule with a shutout. Jones, the lone senior on the Lady Spartan tennis squad, recorded her 20th career victory with an 8-0 win as part of Richmond’s 9-0 decision over Carrollton.
The MRVC East victory gave Richmond a 4-4 league mark and a third-place finish in the conference, and going 8-6 overall.
“We are proud of our finish in the MRVC East and think it’s just a building block in our program,” Richmond Coach Zach Danner said. “It was a great night to have senior night. Hanna played great and the team played great to make it a special night for her.”
Jones also teamed with doubles partner Brittany Munson to record an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles over Rebecca Turner and Shelby Silkwood. Kaylie Root and Ariel Hoard were 8-3 winners at No. 2 doubles over Gabrielle Madigan and Brandy Brock, followed by Hannah Hillegas and Lissa Long defeating Ashley Hinken and Jessica Hendrix 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Munson won her No. 1 match by an 8-1 final over Madigan, followed by Jones’ 8-0 win over Turner. Root also won her No. 3 match by an 8-0 final over Hinken, with Hillegas taking an 8-1 victory at No. 4 over Brock.
Long was an 8-5 winner at No. 5 over Silkwood, with Hoard completing the sweep with an 8-0 win over Hendrix at No. 6.
