The Lady Spartan softball team picked up one victory in the four-game Higginsville Tournament over the weekend.
Richmond had enough offense as the Lady Spartans averaged over 6 runs a game in the first three contests, but closed out the tournament with a 10-0 loss to Odessa.
Stephanie Williams paced the Richmond bats as the senior went 9 for 12 with 5 doubles and 3 RBIs.
“We played very well at times and other times we totally let down,” Richmond Coach Staci Maddux said. “We are still leaving too many runners in scoring position.”
Richmond stranded 9 runners in its tournament-opening 6-5 loss to the host Lady Huskers. The Lady Spartans scored one in the first inning and added their final 4 in the fifth inning. Jamie Anderson drove in a pair of runs, with Kelley Martens and MacKenzie McGill driving in one each. Stephanie Williams had 3 hits, with Chelsea Hook collecting 2.
The Lady Spartans’ lone victory of the tournament was a 7-4 decision over Excelsior Springs. Kayla Hewitt paced the Richmond bats with 2 hits including a home run and 4 RBIs, with Stephanie Williams reaching on 3 doubles. Adrian Tackett earned the victory as she allowed just one earned run on 9 hits with a pair of strikeouts in her complete game effort.
Stephanie Williams drove in 2 of Richmond’s runs in a 9-7 loss to Knob Noster in the third game. Once again, the Lady Spartans left 7 runners on the bases – 4 of them in scoring position. Hewitt had 3 hits, and Haley Padgett scored 2 runs on 2 singles.
Martens had the lone Richmond hit with a third-inning single in Richmond’s loss to Odessa.
