The Lady Spartan volleyball team began a busy week Monday with a loss to Knob Noster, and on Tuesday came back to earn their first MRVC East victory of the season at Carrollton.
Richmond swept the Lady Trojans by taking the first game Tuesday 25-22, and then ending the evening with a 25-21 victory in the second. Richmond Coach Bailey Pierson said her team came together and played as a team as they improved to 1-3 in league matches.
“Carrollton had very consistent serving that made it difficult to defend sometimes,” she said. “Anytime we made a mistake though; the girls were quick to make the correction and played until they heard a whistle. It was a match we needed to win before heading to Holden on Thursday and the Lexington Tournament this weekend. I was very proud of their efforts and I’m glad we were able to come away with a victory.”
Mikayla Vanderpool had a pair of kills, while serving up 4 aces for Richmond, with Kassie Smith also hitting 4 aces. Devvon Daily and Brittany Childers had a good night at the net according to Pierson with 2 blocks each.
The Richmond junior varsity came up short in both games of their match, 15-25 and 13-25.
Richmond dropped both games of the match Monday to Knob Noster 11-25 and 15-25.
Childers, Smith and Vanderpool had one kill each for Richmond, with Ali Svaglic, Vanessa Palier and Daily credited with 2 digs apiece for the Lady Spartans.
The Richmond junior varsity also dropped both games of their match by 14-25 and 11-25 decisions.
