It was a tough weekend for the Lady Spartan softball team at the Chillicothe Tournament. The young Lady Spartans dropped all three of their games and fall to 4-10 for the season.
Richmond opened the day with a 7-3 loss to Brookfield. The Lady Spartans collected 8 hits in the contest with Ashley Williams, Kayla Hewitt and Stephanie Williams getting 3 each. Ashley Williams and Stephanie Williams both drove in one run with a double, while Haley Padgett plated a run with a single.
Chillicothe’s Sarah Baldwin shut the Richmond bats down in the second game as the Lady Hornets won 13-0 in 4-innings. Baldwin gave up only a fourth-inning single to Stephanie Williams, and struck out 9 Richmond batters. The Lady Hornet pitcher retired the first 9 batters she faced with Ashley Williams breaking up the string when she reached on an error to lead off the fourth. Baldwin did not allow a walk, and at the plate, she got things started with a 2-run home run in the first inning.
In the third game, Marceline scored 3 runs in the fourth and 3 more in the fifth for a 6-3 victory over the Lady Spartans. Richmond scored a run in the third as Hewitt singled and Stephanie Williams followed with a double.
Richmond added its final 2 runs in the fifth as Ashley Williams reached on an error to open the inning, followed by a walk to Hewitt. With one out, Alex Phillips brought home a run with a grounder to the shortstop, ahead of a single from Padgett.
The Lady Spartans are scheduled to host Smithville this afternoon.
