RHS netters regain winning formula

After two straight losses, the Lady Spartan tennis team bounced back into the victory column Wednesday with a 6-3 win at Cameron. It was Richmond’s second win this season over the Lady Dragons as the Lady Spartans improve to 3-2.
“We continued to show a lot of fight as we battled to win a few close matches,” Richmond Coach Zach Danner said. “It was a big win tonight for Ariel Hoard as she got her first singles win of the season. Brittany Munson had another strong showing at No. 1.”
Munson improved to 4-1 with an 8-2 victory over Amanda Walker for the first of four Richmond wins in singles. Hanna Jones followed with a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker over Susan Odonell at No. 2, and Kaylie Root defeated Brittany Assell 8-6 at No. 3.
Cameron captured the next two singles matches with Kaylie Botts stopping Hannah Hillegas 8-5, and Sarah Miller taking an 8-4 decision from Lissa Long.
Hoard wrapped up singles play with an 8-1 victory over Whitney Parks.
The Lady Spartans captured two of the three doubles matches with Munson/Jones downing Walker/Assel 8-6 at No. 1, and the No. 3 duo of Long/Hillegas stopping Botts/Parks 8-4. Richmond’s Root/Hoard fell to Odonell/Miller 6-8 at No. 2.
The Lady Spartans won three of the four junior varsity singles matches, while Cameron won both doubles matches.
Morgan McCaughey defeated Kirby Stuedle 6-0, Brielle Herrero beat Marcie Webber 7-5, and Anna Munson won a 7-3 tiebreaker to get past Destinee Mathews.
