Richmond Coach Murray Dennis said his Lady Spartan golfers did not have one of their better days on the course Wednesday, but he was still pleased they managed to pick up one win in their triangular match at Shirkey.
The Lady Spartans’ round of 247 was good enough to pick up their first victory of the season with Plattsburg carding a 280.
Marceline had the low team score of the day with 239.
Kendra Beaver of Marceline was the medalist with her round of 47 on the par-38 Shirkey course. Her teammate Brooke Niemeier was the runner-up with 56.
Jordan Thoreson had the low Richmond score with 57, while Leslie Russell was 3 shots behind. Kadee McMillan and Zoe Harper each shot 65, with Lydia Green shooting 69.
Coach Dennis said Thoreson and McMillan shot close to their season averages, while Harper and Green both turned in lower scores from their previous outings.
“Leslie had a rough day, but I was still pleased that she stayed right in there and battled through it,” Dennis said. “The girls are starting to see that if they put in the effort to improve, their scores will start going down. We missed some opportunities to play this summer, which puts us behind right now. Hopefully we’re starting to catch up, but we still have a ways to go.”
Dennis said he is confident his girls will continue their hard work to improve.
Coryssa Daly had the low Plattsburg round for the triangular with a 67, while Cathryn Zahn and Zoe Carter each turned in a 70, with Callie Dickerson shooting 73.
Becca Allen shot a 65 for Marceline, followed by Sarah Porter with 71.
The Lady Spartans will play Orrick in a dual Tuesday at Shirkey before hosting the Richmond Invitational the following day.
